Our instructors bring operational experience from high-risk environments, allowing us to deliver training that is realistic, relevant, and grounded in real-world practice.

Matt Bate

Matt Bate – Founder & Director of Bravo Eight Medical & Rescue Training

Matt is the Founder and Director of Bravo Eight, bringing together extensive experience in emergency response, austere medicine, and technical rescue to deliver high-fidelity, operationally focused training. He is a former Emergency Response Officer on a mine site, where he worked across medical, fire, confined space, vertical, HAZMAT, and underground rescue environments.

Matt holds a Diploma of Emergency Health Care, is an Associate Fellow of the Academy of Extreme Environment Medicine (AEEM), and is currently completing a Bachelor of Paramedicine. His advanced training spans remote and industrial vertical rescue, canyon and alpine medicine, wilderness life support, flood and swift water rescue, Advanced Moulage application, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), road crash rescue, and advanced trauma care.

With a background in the Australian Defence Force and service with SES, RFS, and St John Ambulance, Matt brings a calm, systems-based and safety-first leadership style to complex, high-risk environments. He founded Bravo Eight to provide deliberate, realistic training that strengthens team performance, decision-making, and operational safety in demanding settings.

Sarah

Sarah is a highly motivated medical Doctor and Officer in the Australian Defence Force with a strong interest in expedition, wilderness, and austere medicine. She combines high-level clinical practice with extensive experience in physically and mentally demanding outdoor environments, allowing her to operate confidently in complex and remote settings.

Sarah holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). She is also a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME). Her postgraduate training includes the Aviation Medical Officer Course and the Medical Officer Underwater Medicine Course, where she was recognised as Dux of both programs. She has completed EMST, Advanced Life Support 2, and specialist ENT masterclasses, and is currently finalising her Fellowship in Austere and Wilderness Medicine.

Beyond the clinical environment, Sarah is an advanced scuba diver, qualified Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder, and an avid bushwalker, canyoner, and remote-area camper. She has completed advanced canyoning training and recently undertook an Advanced Moulage Course, further strengthening her ability to deliver realistic, high-fidelity medical simulation. Sarah’s commitment to continuous learning and operational excellence makes her a valued member of the Bravo Eight team.

Paul

Paul is a highly experienced emergency services professional with over 30 years’ experience in pre-hospital care, special operations, and clinical education, having worked in the field since 1994. He holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic), a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and extensive specialist qualifications in mine rescue, urban search and rescue, and austere and wilderness medicine.

Paul has broad international work experience and a strong background in delivering and evaluating ultra high fidelity training, leading multidisciplinary teams, and providing advanced patient care in complex and remote environments across ambulance, aeromedical, defence, and resources sectors.

He brings proven leadership, instructional depth, and a practical, safety-focused approach to the Bravo Eight instructional team.

Belinda

Belinda is a highly experienced clinician and vocational education leader with over two decades of experience spanning paramedicine, emergency care, and adult education. She is a qualified paramedic with extensive clinical training across critical care, wilderness and remote medicine, trauma-informed care, and advanced life support, and is currently undertaking advanced postgraduate and diploma-level studies in critical care paramedicine, mental health, and VET quality and compliance.

Belinda is a CPD Representative for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and has held senior leadership roles across training, assessment, and organisational governance within the VET sector. She brings deep expertise in curriculum design, simulation-based education, audit readiness, and ASQA compliance, with a strong focus on practical, industry-relevant learning. With additional training in advanced wilderness medicine, swift water rescue, canyoning, advanced moulage application and behavioural and psychological safety, Belinda is passionate about developing confident, capable practitioners through high-fidelity, learner-centred education.

Her combined clinical depth and educational leadership make her a natural fit for Bravo Eight’s mission to deliver realistic, high-impact medical and rescue training.
